Embrace the whole egg. Eggs are among the most nutritious and versatile foods we have, yet they're often unfairly criticised. The yolk, in particular, has been blamed because of its cholesterol content, but it actually holds most of the egg's nutrients. Compared to egg whites, the yolk provides far more vitamin A, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids.

Eggs are rich in necessary vitamins, minerals, protein, and antioxidants. They are quite affordable and scores of people all over the world consume them on a regular basis. The versatile food can offer you protein, healthy fats, vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin B12. Eggs also offer necessary minerals such as selenium, phosphorous, and iron.

Regular consumption of eggs can enhance brain health, vision health, muscles, and weight management. Egg yolk is a vital source of choline that can support brain health, liver functioning, and metabolism. It is worth noting that human liver also creates some choline but it is not adequate to fulfill everyday needs.

However, several individuals fear that eating egg yolk can increase their cholesterol levels as it contains good amount of cholesterol that can lead to increased risk of heart disease. Recently, leading cardiologist took to his Instagram account to disclose that egg yolk contains maximum nutrients. When compared with egg white, egg yolk can offer much more vitamin A, Vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids.

The doctor emphasised on consuming the whole egg as it is counted among one of the most nutritious foods available. “Embrace the whole egg. Eggs are among the most nutritious and versatile foods we have, yet they're often unfairly criticised. The yolk, in particular, has been blamed because of its cholesterol content, but it actually holds most of the egg's nutrients. Compared to egg whites, the yolk provides far more vitamin A, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids," emphasised Dr Alok Chopra.

According to a report featured in healthline, egg may be high in cholesterol than several other foods but it contains healthy bioactive compounds along with disease-fighting nutrients. Consuming eggs may not increase the heart disease risks or other potential risks such as inflammation, elevated cholesterol, and hardening of arteries. The study further revealed that consumption of 2 eggs or 118 ml of liquid eggs for breakfast did not cause any significant impact on blood cholesterol levels. Meanwhile, when diabetics consumed 6 to 12 eggs every week, it did not impact their total blood cholesterol levels or heart disease risks.  On the contrary, it enhanced their high density lipoprotein or HDL cholesterol.

Meanwhile, according to a study conducted by National Library of Medicine, there is no evidence on the role of egg in cardiovascular disease risk. The link between egg consumption and heart diseases risk may not be as strong as once assumed. Several health guidelines have now reduced the restriction they once imposed on egg consumption.

Dr Alok Chopra added, egg white and egg yolk should be consumed together for obtaining increased benefits. “Egg white on its own is actually an inflammatory protein. So if you eat it alone, it's not good for you. It's only when the egg is combined with the yolk.” Regular consumption of eggs will boost healthy eating habits.

"Cholesterol itself is widely misunderstood. It's essential for cell structure, hormone production, brain function, and a healthy immune system. In fact, about 85% of the cholesterol in your body is produced by your own liver, independent of what you eat. So ask yourself-if the body makes it on its own, how can it be inherently bad for your body?,” Dr Chopra asserted.

Right Way To Consume Eggs For People With High Cholesterol

The way you consume eggs will determine the benefits you receive. Consuming boiled eggs will help you get maximum benefits as you do not receive unhealthy fats and excessive calories. But, if you have high cholesterol and eat fried eggs using butter or refined oil regularly, it may lead to increased intake of saturated fat and possible heart issues. It is beneficial to avoid deep frying or heavy cooking of eggs to maximise the benefits.

Pair Eggs With High Fibre Food

According to a report published in Times of India, it is ideal to combine eggs with high-fibre food as they are rich in protein but do not contain the fibre element. You may consume them with vegetables, fruits, whole grains, etc. It will help in improving the digestion process and regulate the blood sugar levels as well. If you pair eggs with spinach, whole wheat toast, tomatoes, it will promote the feeling of fullness and reduce unnecessary snacking. It will help in enhancing the gut and metabolic health too.
