Instagram is rewriting the rules of discovery with its latest feature, ‘Your Algorithm’. Rolling out first in the US and expanding globally soon, this tool gives users unprecedented control over the Reels feed.

Instead of passively scrolling through what Instagram thinks you’ll like, you can now see, edit, and fine-tune the topics shaping your feed. From painting tutorials to GRWM clips, viral cooking hacks, movie edits, memes, the platform’s AI-generated summaries highlight your current interests — and let you decide whether to lean in or tune out.

In its announcement, Instagram said: "You can see what topics we think you’re interested in, tell us which topics you want to see more or less of, and your recommendations will adapt."

Instagram 'Your Algorithm': What's on Offer

1. See your top interests: View a summary of the topics Instagram thinks you care about most, right at the top.

2. Tune your preferences: Type in the topics you want to see more or less of, and your Reels will reflect your choices.

3. Share your algorithm: If you’d like, you can share your interests to your Story, so friends and followers can see what you’re into.

The feature lives in a new dashboard, accessible via a small icon at the top right of Reels. Tap it, and you’ll find a clear breakdown of the themes Instagram believes matter most to you. Want more fashion hacks? Less horror jump scares? You’re in control.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, explained that this is part of a broader push toward transparency and personalization. “As your interests evolve over time, we want to give you more meaningful ways to control what you see on Instagram,” he said.

This move signals a shift in how social platforms balance algorithmic curation with human choice. For creators, it means their content can reach audiences who actively want it.
