Bollywood actress Khushi Kapoor recently divulged that she has been suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, popularly known as IBS. When the actress was asked about the most loyal thing in her life she immediately replied, “Irritable Bowel Syndrome in one of Orry’s recent video. IBS can be described as a chronic condition that can impact the digestion.

IBS is quite common but it can still affect the intestines in a severe manner. The gastrointestinal disease does not impact the gut’s structure but how it functions. It may trigger chronic abdominal discomfort, changes in bowel habits and bloating that can impact everyday activities.

What Is IBS?

According to Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre, “Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common digestive disorder that affects the gut, often causing bloating, cramps, diarrhoea or constipation. While it may not always be visible, it can significantly impact daily life. A balanced diet, regular exercise, effective stress management and proper hydration can go a long way in relieving symptoms and improving gut health.”

The exact cause of IBS is not fully understood but it is often linked to stress factors, gut sensitivity, irregular bowel movements, and food triggers. But the good news is that IBS can be managed. Lifestyle changes such as maintaining a healthy diet and practicing stress reduction techniques can help. In some case medications may be recommended to ease symptoms.

Symptoms Of IBS

  • You may experience frequent stomach aches after undergoing bowel movement. The pain may get aggravated after meals or specially during stress.

  • The disease may cause loose stools, constipation or a mix of both.

  • There can be white or clear mucus whenever there is a bowel movement

  • You may get an urgency to use the toilet especially after meals.  

  • There will be incomplete bowel emptying for many people even after using the toilet

  • The feeling of nausea, heartburn or indigestion may persist  

  • Symptoms may worsen during stress.

Natural Remedies to Manage IBS

  • Dietary changes are often recommended as they play a vital role. Patients are recommended to avoid fried items, caffeine, and excessively processed foods. They must include soluble fiber from oats, bananas, and psyllium husk as they can regulate bowel movements. It will promote healthy eating habits.
