In the 2nd stage, eye movement will be stopped and body temperature will come down. Individuals spend maximum of their entire sleep time in stage 2 which is approximately 45% and this stage lasts for nearly 25 minutes in 1st cycle with time rising in each cycle.
Meanwhile, third stage is the deepest stage of sleep and accounts for approximately 25% of entire sleep duration. Individuals will be hardest to awake from this stage. The heart rate, breathing pattern, and brain waves will slow to the lowest levels with muscles getting relaxed completely.
It is worth noting that individuals spend nearly 25% of their total sleep time in 4th stage also known as REM sleep with each cycle accounting for 10 minutes to 1 hour. The stage ideally begins approximately 90 minutes after an individual falls asleep, according to a report published in Medical News Today.
