Fruits are an excellent source of several crucial nutrients and have become an inseparable part of a healthy diet. Several myths leave many confused about the best time for fruit consumption. Some dietitians claim that consuming fruits in the morning on an empty stomach is the right way to start your day. On the other hand, other nutritionists believe that eating fruits in the morning may cause acidity, bloating, and may impact digestion as well. In this article, we will explore the correct time of eating fruits backed by dietitian.

Is It Appropriate To Consume Fruits On An Empty Stomach In Morning?

Many experts find it okay to consume fruits in the morning on an empty stomach with some precautions. According to wellness counsellor, Dr Rashi Chaudhary, “for some, low GI fruits like papaya, apple, berries, and guava are perfectly fine in the morning. But for others, especially those with pre-diabetes or sensitive digestion, fruits on an empty stomach might not be the best choice.

The key lies in when and how you eat them: pairing fruits with nuts, seeds, or yogurt in the morning OR shifting them between meals/after 4 PM can make all the difference. It’s not a strict YES or NO; it’s about finding what your body needs, Rashi says.

Meanwhile, dietitian Ujjawala took to her social media account to highlight the benefits of eating fruits the first thing in the morning. She says, “Your body absorbs all the nutrients more efficiently, giving you a natural energy boost and kickstarting digestion the right way. Instead of reaching for processed snacks, try nature’s candy it hydrates, heals, and fuels.”

"From glowing skin to better gut health, it all starts with those first bites of the day. So here's your gentle reminder: go fruit first, and let your body thank you later," Ujjawala says.

Which Fruits Should Be Consumed In Morning?

People with strong digestion may consume fruits that can be easy to digest and hydrating. These fruits may include papaya as it is rich in enzyme and good for the gut. They may eat melons as it offers high water content and quite easy to digest. Bananas can be another ideal choice for those who suffer from morning acidity. Other fruits may include berries and apples in the morning.

Fruits That Should Be Avoided In Morning

Fruits such as oranges, pineapples, guava, pears, and pomegranates may cause heaviness, acidity, and may be harsh for some people if they eat them in the morning on an empty stomach. Oranges and pineapple may cause acidity for some. Guava may trigger bloating for some when consumed in morning. Pears may become excessively dense on an empty stomach for some. While people suffering from low gut strength may find pomegranate tough to digest.
