What Causes Bloating?

Recently, leading Ayurveda expert Dimple Jangda visited her Instagram handle and shared 3 remedies to cure bloating. Sharing the post on her Instagram account, Dimple said, “have you ever felt like you are eating clean but still looks like 6-months pregnant after eating dinner? Your stomach is swollen and you do not know why. It is not because you did not eat clean, it is because your stomach is not able to move the food forward into the small-large intestine into your gut. So, you are bloated because your intestines are contracting and all the waste is trapped in the stomach.” 1

The waste includes all the undigested food, unprocessed food, and even the fresh food is getting mixed with it. They are rotting, putrefying, releasing gases, and those trapped gases is causing a swelling around your abdomen. There are three things (kitchen remedies for bloating) you need to have in your diet to reduce the bloating, added Jangda.

Home Remedies For Bloating And Gas Relief

1. Ajwain (Carom Seeds): Dimple said, ajwain or carom seeds contain a compound in it called thymol, which has been proven by research to relax the intestinal lining and prevents them from contracting. Dry roast one teaspoon of carom seeds and then put it in a glass of warm water. Let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes.

Drink this before meals, after meals, if you like. This will help in improving the movement of food from your stomach to the small, large intestine, and thus preventing them from getting trapped in a place, giving that bulging belly.

“In fact, ajwain (carom seed) is so powerful that we boil it in water and take that water, and apply it on the stomach of a newborn child when they have trapped gases, which gives them lot of tummy aches, cramps, and discomfort.”

2. Ginger: The Ayurveda expert suggested the second thing that you can do is roll a piece of ginger with pink salt, Himalayan salt, or rock salt. Ginger contains a compound called gingerol, which is very powerful because it is Deepana as well as panchana. As per Ayurveda, it stimulates your Agni, the digestive fire and also aids the downward moving wind principle, which is Apana Vata.

“So we have something that allows the food to move from the stomach to the small, large intestine, which is your peristalsis. Ginger aids that. Now ginger also kindles Agni. Remember, if you Agni is not strong, your digestive fire is not strong. The food ends up sitting in your gut longer than needed, fermenting, rotting, putrefying, releasing gases, becoming Ama, which is unprocessed food, thus giving you that unhealthy, discomfort, and bloating. So, this is something you can do before a meal, which is ginger and salt to stimulate the Agni,” added Jangda.

3. CCF Tea: The third thing you can do is sip CCF tea. She said, “everybody knows the recipe now. It is one teaspoon of cumin seeds, also called as jeera in Hindi, one teaspoon of coriander seeds (akkha dhania), one teaspoon of fennel seeds, also called as saunf. You simply boil it in 1 to 2 cups of water and sip it throughout the day. This is carminative in nature. It stimulates your digestion. It also aids the production of saliva, bile, stomach acids, and thus aids the breaking down of complex foods.
