In a bid to take on rival foldable smartphones, smartphone brand OnePlus was expected to launch the OnePlus Open 2 as the successor to the OnePlus Open, which was launched in 2023. However, it now appears that the company has changed its plans.

Last year, OnePlus reportedly announced that the OnePlus Open 2 would launch globally in 2026. But a new media report now suggests that the launch of the expected foldable device has been shelved. Here’s what we know about the OnePlus Open 2.

OnePlus Open 2 launch cancelled?

A report by Smartprix, citing tipster Yogesh Brar, states that the OnePlus Open 2 was scheduled to go official in the third quarter of 2026.

The foldable phone was already in its final testing stage, but rising RAM and storage prices may have played a role in OnePlus cancelling its global release. The company has yet to clearly explain the decision to cancel the global launch of the OnePlus Open 2.

However, the report also mentioned that while the global version of the OnePlus Open 2 has been shelved, the same device might launch in select markets under a different name — the OPPO Find N6.

OnePlus Open 2 specifications (expected)

As per the report, the OnePlus Open 2 was expected to feature several upgrades compared to its predecessor.

In terms of display, the OnePlus Open 2 was said to flaunt an 8.12-inch 2K internal display and a 6.6-inch AMOLED cover display with a 165Hz refresh rate, as compared to a 7.82-inch AMOLED internal display and a 6.31-inch outer display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

While the predecessor packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, this device is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is said to be a top-tier flagship SoC for premium smartphones.

The OnePlus Open 2 is said to pack a 50MP triple rear camera setup, along with ultrawide and telephoto sensors. It features a 20MP selfie sensor on the inner display and a 32MP selfie camera on the cover display.

The report also mentions that the OnePlus Open 2 has a 6,000mAh battery with 80W wired charging support and 50W wireless charging. Meanwhile, the OnePlus Open just has a 4,805mAh battery and supports 67W fast charging.

While the report says the company has shelved the plan to launch the OnePlus Open 2, the company is yet to respond to the same. An official statement from OnePlus is still awaited to clarify the situation. Stay tuned for more updates.
