The Lancet recently released its report on diabetes in South Asia where it claimed that as on 2025 approximately 589 million adults all across the globe are living with diabetes. And, the Internation Diabetes Federation or IDF claimed that 107 million adults in the region have been impacted by the diseases. Only in India, 89 million people are suffering from diabetes thus making the nation with the second-largest diabetes burden all over the world.

Ayurveda believes that the several popular Indian spices can offer solutions to several such problems to a great extent. Recently, celebrity nutritionist Shweta Shah shared a simple drink on Instagram (shweta_shah_nutritionist) that can bring your sugar level back in control. Her post reads, “This simple drink can help bring your sugar levels back in control - naturally!”

The nutritionist recommended three key ingredients to prepare the drink. These are cinnamon, methi or fenugreek seeds, and rosemary. You need to take 1 tablespoon of rosemary, 1 tablespoon of methi seeds, ½ inch of cinnamon stick, and 1 cup of water. Mix all the ingredients and boil for 9-10 minutes. Make sure to sip the drink warm for more benefits.

Benefits of Cinnamon

The spice is an excellent source of antioxidants and other key compounds. According to a report in healthline, cinnamon helps in managing blood sugar, protects against heart disease, and alleviates inflammation. The spice has gained huge popularity for its medicinal properties for decades. Recently, modern science begun to confirm several of the potential health advantages linked with the spice. The antioxidants effect of this powerful herb is strong that it can also be used as a natural food preservative.

The healthline report added, “according to one review, supplementing with at least 1.5 grams (g), or about 3/4 of a teaspoon (tsp.), of cinnamon per day was able to reduce levels of triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and blood sugar in people with metabolic disease.”

Benefits of Methi Seeds

The high fibre content in the fenugreek seeds may help in supporting blood sugar management even people without diabetes. Researchers found out that when 10% of the refined wheat flour in buns was replaced with fenugreek powder, it alleviated blood sugar levels significantly in people without diabetes.  It helps in regulating blood sugar, improves digestion, controls cholesterol, and supports weight management. The seeds can also bring down the risk of certain cancers.

Benefits of Rosemary

The herb helps in boosting memory and focus. It aids digestion, reduces stress, and offers antioxidants as a result of the presence of compounds like carnosic acid. It can also support skin and hair health. It contains antimicrobial properties thus making it useful for cooking, aromatherapy, and natural remedies. However, it should be consumed in moderation.
