Combination skin needs balance specially oil control in the T-zone and hydration for drier areas. In Indian summers, start mornings with a gel cleanser, alcohol-free toner, lightweight moisturizer, and matte sunscreen. At night, double cleanse to remove sweat, pollution, and sunscreen, then apply niacinamide or hyaluronic acid serum followed by a gel-based moisturizer. Weekly clay masks on oily zones and mild exfoliation keep pores clear, while hydrating masks soothe dryness.

Summer is officially here and if your skin feels both oily and dry, you have a combination skin type. Let’s make it easier for you to understand, does your T-zone feels oilier, whereas your cheeks and jaw dry? This is what we call combination skin type.

But why does combination skin need special attention in summers? Well, in Indian summers, the high humidity, heat, and pollution intensify oiliness while simultaneously dehydrating other areas. This dual challenge requires a skincare routine that balances sebum control with hydration, without overloading the skin.

For combination skin type, you need to follow morning and night routine. Shall we have a look at the morning routine?

1. Start with gentle cleansing. Opt for a gel-based or foam cleanser that removes sweat and excess oil without stripping natural moisture. Stay away from harsh cleansers as they leave cheeks tight and dry. Ingredients like green tea, aloe vera, or cucumber are soothing and ideal for hot climates.

2. Invest your money in a good toner as they help balance pH and refresh your skin. Rose water or aloe-based toners hydrate dry patches while calming oil-prone areas.

3. Specially in summers, choose lightweight moisturizer because your skin still needs hydration. A gel-based moisturizer is a right choice for this skin type. Look for hyaluronic acid or glycerine, which lock in moisture without clogging pores.

4. Summers are harsh in India and your skin demand diligent sun care. Choose a broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50 sunscreen in gel or matte finish. Reapply every 3 to 4 hours, especially if outdoors.

Sunscreen prevents tanning, pigmentation, and premature aging.

What is the night routine?

1. Just like you, your skin also goes through all the pollution, and dust. Use micellar water or a cleansing balm first, followed by a gentle face wash. This prevents clogged pores and breakouts.

2. Every woman should have a good serum that perfectly suits your skin type. For combination skin, niacinamide is excellent for controlling oil and reducing acne, while hyaluronic acid replenishes hydration. Apply a serum that addresses both concerns, focusing on the T-zone for oil control and cheeks for hydration.

3. Before your hit your bed, a light gel cream or water-based moisturizer keeps skin balanced overnight. Avoid heavy creams that may trigger breakouts in humid weather.

While taking care of your skin daily, it is also important to give extra care to your skin weekly. Use clay masks once a week on the T-zone to absorb excess oil. Apply only on oily areas, leaving drier patches untouched.

Sheet masks with aloe or cucumber can soothe and refresh skin after sun exposure.

Also remember to wash your face twice daily and make sure to not over-cleanse as it can worsen dryness. Carry a rose water spray or aloe mist for mid-day refreshment.

Prefer powder-based makeup over heavy liquid foundations. And include seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet for hydration and antioxidants because beauty starts from within.
