With an aim to protect its users from potential security threats, tech giant Google has started rolling out the Chrome 144 update. This comes after identifying 10 new security vulnerabilities affecting the Chrome browser, which is currently used by over three billion people worldwide.
As per the company, the vulnerabilities were discovered in Chrome version 143 and, if left unpatched, could potentially leave users’ applications exposed to security risks. To address the issue, Google has rolled out the Chrome 144 update.
In the official Chrome Releases post dated January 13, Srinivas Sista announced the promotion of Chrome 144 to the stable channel for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The post also confirmed that the update includes fixes for a total of 10 vulnerabilities spanning low- to high-severity categories.
The tech giant also mentioned that the update will be rolled out gradually to users globally, which could be a concern for those handling sensitive data and who cannot afford any security risks during the rollout period.
Notably, the new update includes fixes for security vulnerabilities, including high-severity issues related to the V8 engine and Blink rendering engine, several medium-risk vulnerabilities affecting downloads, network policies, and digital credentials, along with low-risk issues linked to user interface handling.
It is advisable for users to update their Chrome browsers as soon as it becomes available. Notably, users can check their current Chrome version by heading to Settings, then About Chrome to make sure they are running the latest build.
