

Smartphone brand POCO has unveiled its latest POCO M8 series in India. The series consists of two smartphones - POCO M8 5G and POCO M8 Pro 5G. Both phones offer different specifications. While the POCO M8 5G packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 SoC, the Pro variant is equipped with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset. The POCO M8 5G is currently available at a launch price of Rs 15,999, which also includes some bank discounts. Notably, this price will only be available for the first 12 hours.
This newly launched POCO smartphone will be available to buy on Flipkart from January 13.
The POCO M8 5G has been launched in three colour options - Black, Green, and Silver - and will be available in two variants - 8GB+256GB and 8GB+512GB.
The POCO M8 5G is claimed to have an ultra-slim profile and weighs 178 grams. It packs a 6.77-inch Flow AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,200 nits of peak brightness.
In terms of chipset, the POCO M8 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, a decent mid-range mobile platform, which we have also seen on phones like the Samsung Galaxy A36 and Moto G75 5G. The phone offers up to 1TB of expandable storage via microSD card support.
The company notes that the newly announced POCO M8 5G is also equipped with AI features like Google Gemini, Circle to Search with Google, and more for enhanced productivity.
The phone has a 5,520mAh battery with 45W fast charging support. The company notes that it has cleared SGS shock and drop-resistance testing. It also has an IP66 rating for dust and water resistance. Additionally, the device includes Wet Touch Technology 2.0, which helps maintain screen responsiveness even when the display is wet.
Talking about the camera system, the phone sports a 50MP Light Fusion 400 primary camera and a 20MP sensor on the front for video calls and selfies. The phone also supports 4K video recording at 30fps.
The POCO M8 5G brings several changes over its predecessor, the POCO M7 5G. The newer model is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, compared to the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 on the older phone. It also gets a higher-resolution 20MP front camera, while the predecessor offered an 8MP sensor.
In terms of durability, the POCO M8 5G carries an IP66 rating, an upgrade over the IP52 rating on the previous model. Battery capacity and charging have also been improved, with the new phone packing a 5,520mAh battery and 45W fast charging, up from 5,160mAh and 18W charging on the earlier device.
