Tech giant Apple unveiled the iPhone Air in India and globally last year. The highlight of this iPhone is that it is claimed to be the thinnest iPhone ever, with a 5.6mm thickness. As per a report by The Elec, the tech giant is likely planning to use Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) technology, which will help in implementing thin panels. CoE is a new display technology, which removes the polarising layers used in traditional OLED screens and replaces them with colour filters and a black pixel layer.
Notably, this allows more light to pass through the display, which helps reduce power consumption while also making the screen thinner.
It is worth mentioning that the slimmer display design could also help free up internal space for a larger battery.
Additionally, this report indicates that it will be announced in 2027, and not this year alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. The move comes after the iPhone Air, announced alongside the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, reportedly failed to meet the company’s sales expectations.
The iPhone Air was launched at a starting price of Rs 1,19,900 and features a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with up to 120Hz of refresh rate. The iPhone Air is powered by the A19 Pro chip and packs a 48MP Fusion main camera. Meanwhile, the front panel flaunts an 18MP selfie sensor.
